Supporting Independence, Inclusion and Equal Opportunity
The Manicaland Visually Impaired Association (MVIA) is committed to improving the quality of life of people living with visual impairments by providing services that promote independence, education, and inclusion. Our disability services are designed to reduce barriers and ensure that people with visual impairments have the opportunity to participate fully in society.
Provision of white canes for independent mobility, assessment of assistive technology needs, guidance on use and maintenance of assistive devices, and information and referrals for specialised technologies as they become available.
Teaching safe use of white canes, improving independent navigation skills, and promoting confidence in moving within homes, schools, workplaces, and communities.
Educational guidance and referrals, support in accessing accessible learning materials, collaboration with schools, teachers and parents, and advocacy for inclusive education.
Training in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, vocational skills, computer and digital literacy, and life skills that improve independence and employment opportunities.
Income-generating projects, business development support, entrepreneurship training, employment and livelihood opportunities, and cooperative development.
Raising public awareness, advocating for accessible services, supporting disability inclusion, engaging government and community leaders, and promoting the rights of persons with disabilities.
Disability awareness campaigns, information and referrals, support for families and caregivers, and encouraging community participation and inclusion.
Our services are primarily available to children, youth, adults and older persons with visual impairments; families and caregivers; and schools and community organisations supporting people with visual impairments. Where appropriate, some programmes may also benefit other persons with disabilities through referrals and partnerships.
